Droimeann Cattle Society launches Herd Book at Ballyvolane House

published in Events, News

The launch of the Droimeann Cattle Society Herd Book was held at Ballyvolane House on Wednesday, 22nd August 2018. There was a terrific turnout to support this historic event. It is a monumental occasion as it is the first cattle breed to be recognised in Ireland since 1927. The society are doing really important work to help preserve one of the rarest of the Irish rare-breeds. There are between 200 and 300 Droimeann cattle existing in Ireland today. RTE’s Ear to the Ground filmed the event which will be aired in November. Thank you to everyone for coming & supporting the launch.

Bertha’s Revenge Gin is named after the most famous Droimeann of them all - Big Bertha, the world’s oldest cow. Fittingly, our distillery is located in an old cow shed in the farm yard at Ballyvolane. Ballyvolane translates into gaelic as ‘the place of leaping heifers’.
