Ballyvolane House Parts 1 & 2 Blogs by The Lifestyle Enthusiast
Many thanks to Reena of The Lifestyle Enthusiast, A Luxury Food & Travel Blog for writing and curating this stunning blog about her recent stay and visit to Ballyvolane House and the distillery.
“When you discover a secret gem like this one, it takes everything to stop yourself from sharing it with the world. I’ve been putting off writing this post for days, for fear that all the world will book in and I won’t be able to go back to my new favourite short-haul getaway spot. That said, it would be a tragedy for you not to hear about Ballyvolane House, the Irish countryside retreat that you’re going to fall in love with.”

SLOE BERTHA
SLOE BERTHA - a warming tipple made by infusing wild sloes with Bertha’s Revenge Gin. The wild sloes are picked from the hedgerows around Ballyvolane and beyond when they ripen in the autumn. We then steep them in Bertha’s Revenge Gin for several months and add some sugar syrup at the end to sweeten.
A bit like a good dog, SLOE BERTHA is a welcome companion when taking to the great outdoors over the winter. A few sips of SLOE BERTHA will renew flagging enthusiasm when cold, wet and watching a match from the sidelines. Equally, it will serve to gird the loins when facing the final hill of the day. Away from the sporting field, SLOE BERTHA may be enjoyed as a digestif or as a key ingredient in our Hedgerow Martini.

Droimeann Cattle Society
A cattle breed society was established on 5/11/2015 dedicated to preserving the Droimeann cattle breed. Currently a programme of genomic testing is being undertaken as a means of scoring cattle in terms of breed purity and co-ancestry so that an effective breed improvement programme can be developed. The aim of the society is to promote the breed and assist existing breeders while attracting new members interested in the breed.
Bertha’s Revenge Gin is aptly named after ‘Big Bertha’ the world’s oldest cow. Bertha was a Droimeann and lived near Sneem in the Kingdom County of Kerry until the ripe old age of 48. She is in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the oldest cow and also holds the record for having the most number of calves - an eye-bulging 38!
