Conde Nast Traveller - The Hotels Royals Love by Annabelle Spranklen
We are delighted to share this article in Conde Nast Traveller. HRH The Prince of Wales and HRH The Duchess of Cornwall stayed at Ballyvolane House (the home of Bertha’s Revenge Gin) in June 2018 and they were utterly charming as were their entire entourage. It was fantastic for Cork and the locality and we loved having them here. They enjoyed Bertha tipples too.
Written by Annabelle Spranklen for Conde Nast Traveller.
“BALLYVOLANE HOUSE, COUNTY CORK, IRELAND. This magical family-run hotel in the County Cork countryside was the ideal place for a royal sleepover when Prince Charles and Camilla were on an official tour of Cork in the summer of 2018. Built in 1728, this historic house, which has been in the hands of the Green family since the 1950s, is surrounded by a bluebell-carpeted woodland and acres of luscious emerald fields, giving guests as much seclusion as they wish. Inside, gleaming polished floors and doors with painted panels of intricate flowers and chirpy birds await, a nod to the antique, vintage-inspired décor that takes over the rest of the house. There’s a homely feel to the place – expect one of the family’s terriers to roll over for a rub as well as a tasting of the homemade gin, called Bertha’s Revenge Gin; Prince Charles even took a bottle home.”

Corona Virus Statement
The effects of the Coronavirus on countries and communities across the world have been harsh, destructive and swift. It has now arrived in Ireland, and since last Thursday we have seen at first-hand how quickly and thoroughly a pandemic such as this can change the status quo in society.
The health of our communities is paramount, and we applaud the excellent work of the medical personnel in all jurisdictions, together with other front line agencies, as they endeavour to diagnose, treat and heal those of us who are vulnerable or who have been infected.
We understand and support the state-led call for containment and social distancing. This is the right thing to do. However, the short to medium term economic, social and mental consequences will be serious at best, if not devastating.
We are a small business, and the effective closure of the hospitality sector in Ireland and abroad will result in straightened times for us in the weeks and months ahead. We remain open for business and fully intend to weather this storm, but it will be difficult. Yet whilst we face up to the severity of our own situation, our thoughts and prayers are also with our wide network of friends, customers and suppliers in the food, drink and hospitality sector, both here in Ireland, but also across the globe, who have had to make much more painful decisions than us over the last 72 hours.
We will come through this painful time together. Social distancing, or even social isolation, does not mean social exclusion. The elastic is stretched, but we are still connected. Socially, economically, nationally and internationally – we are connected. This is the bedrock of our strength and fortitude in the face of adversity.
Look after yourselves, your families and your communities. Support local business. And whenever possible keep on drinking gin!
To your health!

25 Drinks You Need To Try (Which Aren't Guinness) by The GastroGays
We are delighted to be included in this impressive line-up. Thank you gents!
“Of course, we’re not against Guinness – even Bey likes the ‘G’ – and we’ve nothing but good stuff to say about ‘The Black Stuff’. But we’re here to tell you that Ireland’s drink game goes way beyond stout; there’s more that Ireland produces than that… Across the Emerald Isle, the craft brewery and small batch spirit distillery business is booming. Not just selling locally, this huge market is getting more and more fledgling players finding a national and even international audience! Here are a few suggestions to wet your whistle.”

Bertha Sessions are back!
Bertha Sessions is a live-music and supper event held in the rustic dining terrace and barn at Ballyvolane House. We are delighted to welcome Blind Poets, who will be performing at the next ‘BERTHA SESSIONS’ live-music and two-course supper in the barn at Ballyvolane House on Friday 28th February 2020.
Tickets are €35 per person which include entry to the gig and a two-course supper. Needless to say, we are always very happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements and please advise accordingly.
Fine song-writing, gorgeous traditional arrangements, skilful musicianship and five exceptional voices characterise this band. Rooted in folk but unafraid to cross genres, it’s no exaggeration to say Blind Poets are doing something new in Irish music.
